Authors: Robert Asprin with Peter J. Heck
Length: 316 pages
Wonderful Husband actually checked this one out the last time I dragged him along with me to raid the library. Although he (currently 31 pages in) says he remembers the first three of the series to be better, I found this to be relatively well-plotted, fairly well-paced, and overall a fast read. Of course, it probably didn't hurt that upon reading "interstellar legionnaires" my brain promptly went "Dendarii mercenaries" and... well, I'm pretty sure the comparison is not entirely unwarranted. One thing I found particularly amusing, though, is the authors' use of, mmm, shall we call them "on the nose" names. Things like "General Blitzkrieg" and "Major Botchup." If you're in doubt of who is going to inevitably lose any confrontation, you shouldn't be. That said, there were enough twists on who the invisible enemy was that I found this a satisfying read. And the church of Elvis was *definitely* FTW! Though that may be partially due to having recently rewatched Lilo and Stitch.
Verdict: Not deep, but recommended as a fun read, and I'll probably check out the first three in the series.
