Title: And Less Than Kind
By: Mercedes Lackey and Roberta Gellis
This is the fourth and final book in a series I've rather enjoyed. I've long loved Lackey's low fantasy elven series, and getting something with actual Tudor historical research hit another full set of my buttons. That said, this final volume feels... rushed. And too much like a dry history in places. Earl Such-and-Such did this, Sirs Yea and Nay got their heads chopped off... and these listings seldom seem to relate back to our main characters. The Big Happy Ending For Everyone Even The Bad Guys felt too obligatory. And, you know what? After four books about people protecting Elizabeth until she comes to the throne, I wanted to see her actually get it! Not just be told that Mary is going to die in X number of days and then she'll be queen. *exasperated sigh* So, really, I feel the cumulation of the series is the weakest volume and they really should have expanded it out a little bit further. It had its moments, but it didn't have the crowning (pardon the pun) moment I'd hoped it would.
