Title: Many Bloody Returns
Author: anthology edited by Charlaine Harris and Toni L.P. Kelner
Christmas present from
toothycat and
toothycat! I'm kind of counting this as part of a trilogy of vampire anthologies (the other two being My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding and its sequel, My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon) because even though the theme and editors are different, let's just say the writers overlap. A lot. That said, I think this is the best of the three. The contradicting themes of birthdays (celebration of life) and vampires (the undead) work well. Some of the stories were fun, but the best ones were disturbing, raising the question of morality: is it right to take another's life to prolong your own? Also, I liked the Harry Dresden story in this anthology a lot better than the one in MBFSH. The Jack Fleming story, too, was good to finish. (P.N. Elrod had previously posted part of it on the 'Net.) So if you like more or less modern day vampire stories, pick this one up. It's worth a read and a good part of it a reread.
