Green Thumb, Mostly

So part of my running around Saturday involved a stop at Orchard Supply Hardware for wall hooks. I browsed around in their plants area and found some herbs (variegated thyme, variegated sage, and chives) as well as some pole beans, and thought to myself "what the heck!" On Sunday I took those as well as an Italian parsley plant I'd bought a few weeks before, and went out to the patio garden. After cleaning up the latest suicidal clay pot to fall from my sister's staircase landing, I took my free mesh trellis (the other is on the south fence having my sister's flowers slowly grow on it) and rigged up a V-shape with that and three tomato stakes, planting all twelve of the beans along it. All the herbs went in the hollow of the V, and I trimmed back the dead growth on the thyme plant I already had, giving everything a good dose of organic fertilizer. As of this morning it looks like eleven of the twelve bean plants will make it. Given that they were not very happy when I brought them home, this pleases me.
