Mwaha! Two more pages on the origwork and I like them! They flow well and feel strong, which of course means that in about three chapters I'm going to think they utterly suck. But huzzah! Writing has been accomplished. Yes, I know I'm making too much of a deal about this, but I figure if I keep my mood up I'll be able to keep going. Am actually trying to use the method/philosophy I learned in screenwriting classes of "write to the next high point." Right now I'm writing scenes setting up each particular cool moment, and it seems to be making for stronger writing because I'm enjoying where I'm getting to with each goal, not just slogging through a quota of text to write each day. (Current quota: three pages single-spaced.)

Wai! Wai! Very cool! *waves little banners* It's great that you're making such good progress. (Me, slightly envious? Naah. ^_^ Besides, I've just made it onto the second page, which means that I can now definitively say that I've actually started writing something--with just a paragraph or two it's more like wishful thinking.) The idea of writing to the next high point is interesting, though I tend to find that focusing on the upcoming cool stuff is kind of frustrating--I'm so slow that it takes me forever to get there, so it's more like torture. ("Argh! Can't I just write 'stuff happens here' and get on with the good part?") I'm trying right now just to write at and enjoy where I am in the story. Plus I don't really know what the cool points are going to be yet--unlike my long fics, I haven't outlined this one in any detail. I'm going to be learning about the main character during the course of her quest, so the story is going to be more of a process of discovery, less a novelization of the movie in my head. Kind of a different way to work.

And I've given up on setting quotas for myself. As soon as I set one, it somehow foredooms me to come up short.

Don't worry about making a big deal out of whatever progress you've got--it's great to see you so excited. And did I mention yet that I'm looking forward to seeing stuff whenever you're ready to show it? ^_^
