Last night I stitched up some new curtains for the kitchen. They're of a red and cream fabric I've been eyeing with said project in mind for a few months now; I finally bought some and stitched it up, and I think they're kind of cute. With ties and all, I ended up with a 6"x22" piece left over. Not bad for my fabric estimation skills! I also made dinner last night, Pork Steak Diane with buttermilk herb mashed potatoes and green salad. I'm getting very fond of Cuisine at Home's "Weeknight Meals" segments, because I really can make it all up in less than an hour. I think I need to pull my back issues and just start working through them. Then I cleaned the kitchen and dishes up and bleached the sinks, keeping one small section of my life under control. The kitchen is, as someone wrote, a single lily in an acre of pigweed. ^^;;

The new curtains are actually practical. We've been getting hit by a mini heatwave that has had me seriously contemplating switching the duvet out for one of the summer quilts. The curtains that were in the kitchen window before were lace, and let lots of light in; the new ones are calico, and will hopefully block more sunshine/heat when closed during the day. I've also opened all the windows in the house, to hopefully create some cross-currents to cool things down.

I made the mistake(?) yesterday of browsing Yahoo Japan again, and found more than a few things I'd like. So I started looking at proxy services again. Rinkya is pretty much out because I can't afford $40+ in fees for auctions. I've found recommendations on [livejournal.com profile] d_boys for Crescent Trading and Shopping Mall Japan, the latter of which looks like the best match for me thus far. Does anyone else have any other recommendations?

I'm going to take the nummy roast crabs in with me to work today. Let's see if anyone wants any of them....

Celga is great! I always use them. http://www.celga.com/egl/ They're cheap, fast, and easy.

You can take a look at Celga, but I've generally had the most success with Shopping Mall Japan. Depending on how much the actual item is, Celga or SMJ might be cheaper.

Expect to spend about $20 in fees all told, but you can consolidate shipping if you're planning to get several items. Both places will hold stuff for at least a few weeks for more things to come in to cut down on the shipping costs.
