Valentine's Day this year was rather quiet for Wonderful Husband and myself. We'd agreed not to do the cards-presents-roses thing this year, and instead spent a quiet night at home. I made dinner (roast chicken and roast vegetables) and he helped me make up a pair of apple pies, we played on the computers for a bit, and went to bed early to try to catch up on the sleep we've been shorting ourselves on recently.

That remarkable lack of hearts and flowers and planning aside, should I still be resenting my coworker who asks if I've also refused to buy into the crass commercialism that is Valentine's Day? Because, really, it's none of her business, and for that matter I like Valentine's Day. I know it's because her marriage isn't happy (I am, for the record, the only person in this office with a happy marriage/relationship) and that she's displacing her resentment of not having a happy Valentine's with her husband, shifting it on to me, but still. A nice dinner and making apple pies together seem like good celebrations of being in love to me.

And in that vein, happy Cheap Chocolate Day, everyone!

I think quiet VS flashy Valentine's Days are equally good, depending on what you're in the mood for that year. Mine was delightfully flashy, for a single girl. ^^ Sorry to hear about the parade-rainer, but I'm glad you had fun. ^_^
