Am now marginally more coherent than last night, though my ears still aren't 100%....

Fanime got off to a bang this year with my car overheating on the way to work Thursday morning. I immediately pulled over and called AAA, getting a tow to my uncle's shop, and my dad picking me up from there to take me to work. Fortunately it was a one-day thing (cracked radiator needed replacing), but... well, there went my reward to myself for finishing all the kimono and hakama sets in time for the con. Or, rather, my reward is a working car, which is always good. But I got off work early, Wonderful Husband picking me up to get the car, and thence to LAX. If we fly next year, we're flying out of either John Wayne or Long Beach airports because they're much more convenient in the way of asking people to drop us off/pick us up. Got checked in (which involved moving things from one overstuffed luggage into the other to make them both under 50 pounds), grabbed a quick airport food dinner, and got on the plane. [livejournal.com profile] roseembolism picked us up at San Jose and took us to the con. Looking out the window on the way, I think I saw the house I would want to live in if I ever live in SJ.... *sigh* Dropped massive amounts of cookies off onto the ConOps department, Japanese clothing on [livejournal.com profile] roseembolism and [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina, and called it a night.

Friday was the first day of the con for us and a bit hectic. I donned my Ovelia garb for my panel with [livejournal.com profile] hoshikage and [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina about cosplay for the "real" body. I think it went over well. Not a particularly large audience, but it was still during the day on a workday. We did get a couple people thank us for broaching the topic, as well as a request for more information on crossplay should we ever repeat the panel. Hmm.... Gave a suitcase full of armor pieces to [livejournal.com profile] hoshikage, so she now has pieces of her stuff and stuff to give to M-chan. I also managed a troll through the second night of the Swap Meet and got a couple pencil boards for myself and found a few for [livejournal.com profile] seshat, which we were both quite pleased about.

Saturday Wonderful Husband and I met up with a couple of people from the ToothyWiki for lunch and then caught the rest of the AMVs. Most were mediocre, but there was one spectacular Princess Tutu video called "Hold Me Now" which I've just managed to track down and download. Happy~~~! (It ended up winning Best Free Form, IIRC.) Also found an artist in Artists' Alley whose work I must stalk and bug her about until she starts making prints so I can buy them! Oh, and I came down with a 24-hour bug, most likely the flu. Bleh.

Sunday was relatively quiet. A sweep through the Dealers' Room netted [livejournal.com profile] hoshikage a Puu-chan plushie, as well as one for [livejournal.com profile] sandpanther and the YYH artbook for the latter as well. As for myself, I now have the second Rozen Maiden artbook. Unfortunately it still doesn't have any stills or line art of Jun's opening outfit. Still not being 100%, opted to miss the Masquerade. Not sure if that was a wise decision or not. But people I know and like did well there, and at BayCon, and at other cons across the country this weekend, so all is well.

Monday I got shown part of Junni Kokki and will be watching it all pretty soon. And then [livejournal.com profile] roseembolism took us back to the airport, and we arrived at LAX and spent a half hour at the luggage carousel that had our flight's number on it, while our luggage was circling at the carousel three down from ours... pfeh. Got home, collapsed unconscious.

And today I got to work and discovered that, yes, as expected, no one covered for me on my vacation day. *rolls eyes* I'm not surprised.

And that was my Fanime'06.

Poke me when you have that Rosen Maiden artist's info. I'm keen to know, too.

http://mangaka-chan.deviantart.com/ ... looks like she hasn't finished/posted the piece she was working on as I watched, which was gorgeous.
