Jul. 7th, 2005 09:42 pmAs most people who read this journal might know, my Wonderful Husband is British. Fortunately none of our friends or relatives in England are in central London.
Is it wrong of me to feel that it's one thing for this kind of thing to happen in the US, but something entirely different for it to happen in England?

Date: 2005-07-08 04:41 pm (UTC)I know nothing of the british (aside from the widely variagated sexy accents), but it seems to me that they have a very tolerant and 'proper' (for lack of a better term) society... whereas here, half of us are incredibly tolerant, and the other half think that bigotry is all carried out in the name of God (or whomever you happen to believe in...) We've got such a variable society, probably spanned from the vast expanses that the US covers, that I can see how we might disgust certain cultures... we do as we want and pay little or no respect to traditions... we're the mutt society, if you will...
Make no mistake (before someone flames me for this reply), I love the freedom that I have as an American (although not terribly fond of our leadership... AT ALL!!), and could hardly imagine growing up and working elsewhere... but we are very 'in-your-face'...
I suppose the point (being that this is now longer than your original post, elder-sister-of-mine) is that for them to attack a society who has sought out trouble with the middle east in the more recent past is more understandable than an attack on the british, who show far more respect than we ever have and probably ever will...
(It's 9.41am... do you know where my bed is??)

Date: 2005-07-08 06:07 pm (UTC)Oddly enough, that was one of my first reactions. I think I've watched to much anime and have ingrained the "you can mess with me, but don't mess with my friends" attitude.
Glad to hear everyone you know is all right.
