Ooh, ow, harsh!
Jun. 5th, 2005 11:01 pmSince I can't work any further on the costume until I get the hooping cut tomorrow, I've indulged myself by watching anime tonight. I haven't watched anime in weeks. If I didn't have work in the morning, I'd watch more and cut down some of my backlog. As it is, I finished off Earthian (with Wonderful Husband helping me bridge the MASSIVE plot gap since it's actually his disc and he's read the manga), watched episode zero of Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid (episode zero my kiester, why don't they just call it another trailer? still, it looks like I'll like it as much as the original series), and episodes five and six of Emma. I *like* Emma. It's a nice series, done by my beloved Studio Pierrot, and it apparently has something resembling historical accuracy. At some point I may bounce it off the costuming groups to see what they say about the clothing designs. And in episode six it is made very clear that William's father will not approve of a match between his son and anyone below the level of the gentry. *rolls eyes* Not that this is going to stop our lovers--if it did, there'd be no point to continuing the series. And, really, Emma's capable enough for both of them to survive. But I don't know where it's going to go, and that's half the fun.
I normally don't like soap operas, so it's puzzling me why I like this series. My best guess so far is that I like it because the romance *is* restrained. Dignified, even. It's not tawdry but quiet, yet no less passionate and sincere for all that. It's like... not having to go through dating and heartbreak and breaking hearts to find the one who completes you and makes you happy, but simply growing from friendship into something even more beautiful.
