Hemming hemming hemming....
May. 17th, 2005 09:36 pmThe joy of making petticoats. This is number four. Number three is temporarily on hold since I've realized it's less than two weeks to Fanime and of the two costumes I wanted to finish, *this* one I want to finish more. TGL will get worked on after it's is done. (And, no, I'm not being needlessly vague. This costume I want to be a surprise so I can see honest uninformed first reactions to it.)
But anyway. Petticoats. Crinolines. Whatever. Though not as impressive as some, this one is supposed to be white and knee-length. I'm making it out of silkessence, which though 100% synthetic has the advantage of being the lightest floatiest stuff ever. And, incidentally, ridiculously easy to hem. Unlike the taffeta the TGL petticoat is getting made from. So I've cut six strips each seven yards long and six and a half inches wide and gotten two-thirds of the way through hemming them all on both sides. Which is eighty-four yards total. Two hundred and fifty-two feet. Plus a waistband, which is hemmed already. So before I allow myself to go to bed tonight I'm going to finish hemming the strips and put the ruffle foot on my machine. I need to decide how tightly to ruffle the strips--I want the nice, classic thirty degree angle.
With luck (persistance, determination) I'll finish the petticoat hopefully tomorrow but more likely Thursday. Then I can start work on the skirts to go over it.
Am not planning to be able to see Episode III until after Fanime.
