His eyes opened.
"You smell of ghosts," he said. <No wonder he does not find a river god's presence disturbing.>
"I do?" Hikaru lifted an arm to his nose and sniffed at himself, then, shrugging, let it drop again. "One ghost, anyway. What do ghosts smell like?"
"This one, water and ancient dust. The stillness of a thousand years." Kohaku frowned. "Somehow... familiar, too," he admitted.
Hikaru's eyebrows rose. "Wait, you knew Sai?"
Kohaku's own eyebrows shot up. "You were haunted by Sai? The Go master?"
"Why else d'you think I started playing?" Hikaru asked. "How do you know him?"
"A thousand years ago... he drowned himself in me."
"A thousand...." Hikaru's eyes were wide and wary now. "What are you?"
"Nigihayami Kohaku-nushi," Kohaku introduced himself properly, bowing, "a river spirit."

Date: 2003-05-25 02:04 pm (UTC)I love how twisted your mind is.
I'm surprised you've gone so after Hikaru rather than Akira so far (I would have angled more in on how freaked Akira was) but... I like this!

Date: 2003-05-25 10:43 pm (UTC)Though it really doesn't seem that hard of a connection to make once you've set yourself on this kind of crossover. I mean, Sai had to drown in *some* river, didn't he? And Kohaku is a river spirit, so....
As to Akira... maybe tomorrow. For now I've just had to get the connections out of my head and onto the screen. Because whether or not Akira believes in the spiritual world is open to debate; with Hikaru, he *has* to believe in the spiritual world. And he has sharp perception skills. Akira is still be thrown off a bit by the whole doppelganger thing; Hikaru, however, is on his game.
That said, I think I shall try to find out for tomorrow's snippet just what Akira and Chihiro are up to.
