sakon76It's cold and it's raining and I'm spending my time with beads, making something beautiful.
I went through my button collection this morning, looking for a good shank button to use for the clasp of the necklace. It was like rereading a good book, or visiting an old friend. I currently have four button boxes. One was my mother's. These are the buttons I played with in my childhood, sorting them, spinning them on strings, making necklaces out of them to play dress-up. The other three were my grandmothers'. They're fun to go through because I don't know them as well. I wonder what this strip of leather once was, that has four buttons on it--a glove, maybe?. That really fancy one, was it saved off of an old dress from the '40s? Were these utilitarian ones part of an old workshirt one of my grandfathers wore out? It's a weird type of family continuity, but it makes me feel closer to those who came before me....
