Bloody AM translations
May. 20th, 2003 10:59 amWas up until two in the morning working on my translation of the last four pages of a Japanese article about the author's Korean father-in-law. But (haha!) I finished the sucker. I'm counting it as girding my loins for my battle against _Souryuuden_ this summer. If I can translate *this*, surely I can translate anything. Except stereo instructions. Those are still, to paraphrase Morgan Freeman from _The Shawshank Redemption_, a total f'ink mystery. Somehow I slept through my alarm this morning, but I woke up in time to do all my morning chores and get to class without a major rush or anything. Had dreams again, but I'm not sure now what they were about. I know I woke up in the middle of them (the dog wanted his breakfast) and when I went back to sleep I got to finish them. I have the feeling it was some kind of mental training I was finishing, whether of my dream self (same one from yesterday?) or a character (Sakon or Ran in "Shaman"? Yuki and Kiko in "Lady Killer"?) or my real self, I do not know. I'm thinking perhaps it was influenced by reading through Truth's "Something Missing" yesterday, but it didn't feel like a fanfic dream. It felt like something real within my mind. I don't often remember my dreams, so when I do, I write them down.
My next two assignments due are creative writing, which will be fun. One is to do a Tokugawa era Kabuki/Bunraku style dodge of the censorship authorities by taking a recent even (w/in the last 30 years) and disguising it via many methods: setting it in a different time/universe, changing the names, using historical figures, etc. I'm thinking of writing the Patty Hurst kidnapping into the Old West. The James gang, maybe. The other assignment is in Japanese. I have to write a story in Japanese, two pages, plain form. Lee-sensei gave us two options, and I kind of lead the class into doing this one instead of the more analytical essay of the article on the guy's Korean father-in-law. I did analysis in the last essay. I want to do something fun in this one.
I'm probably going to experiment with making miniature pies today. Been reading through the section on pies and tarts and tartlets in _The Joy of Cooking_ with that in mind. Accidentally broke a liquid measuring cup the other day... just set it down wrong and it went in two. Need to remember to replace it.
Seshat likes the snippet I sent her of chapter seven of "Shaman." I have intent to concentrate on that story... starting to work out what happens after the snippet. I know there'll be a kekkai (kekkai not Kekkai) raised in the Koneko no Sumu Ie, and I know that Ukon will get forcibly possessed by **spoiler**, but I need to rewatch certain things to find out certain things that I've forgotten, so am kind of waiting for the Weiss box to be released. Next week, I think? Need to check animeondvd.com. And while the Weiss boys believe in psychics, do they necessarily believe in the spiritual realm? For some reason I think Ken does but the other three do not. Subaru, Sakon, and Ukon may have to prove themselves to disbelievers, which always annoys me in fics so I'll need to find a unique way to manage it. Heheh. Is fun, though. The end of the Takatori Reiji arc of Weiss (utter political chaos and military rule) coincides *quite* nicely with the End of the World in X having happened at the same time. ^^
