And, incidentally, I really hate my birthday. Not because it's a sign of getting older (that I can deal with) but because I have to let people give me presents without being allowed to give them anything back!

Would very severely love to get out of dinner with people tonight because I know I'm going to be given early presents, but inlaws are leaving tomorrow to go back to England, so no way in heck.

I also don't think my husband believes me that what I really want for my birthday is new batteries in my three dead watches. And, of course, for my Tinkerbell watch to turn up again, but I don't think he can control that one. Working watches would be more useful to me than much else at this point.

Have you considered starting up a tradition of giving presents on your birthday as well as receiving? It's what the Hobbits do, after all...so you can say you're reviving an old custom. *snicker*
