sakon76: (Princess Princess)
So on my birthday I rose, dressed, and ruthlessly purged my closet of most garments I no longer wear or fit. There's a dress I'm still waffling on, and I still have the dresser to go through (maybe tonight or tomorrow). But it feels oddly freeing to have that space and no longer have the expectations of clothing I don't wear weighing me down. This also gives me space to add things to my wardrobe, a good number of which I hope to sew myself.

I find myself in the odd position of transitioning to a different style. For most of my life I've been a decidedly "casual tomboy" type, with t-shirts, blue jeans, and running shoes as my garments of choice despite my old cosplay leanings. A few months ago, however, I ended up purchasing a few skirts at a thrift store, and one of them in particular has become my favorite; I wear it no less than once a week. And for anywhere but at home, running shoes and t-shirts just don't work with long skirts. So I find myself moving toward slightly dressier, and definitely toward a vintage bend; so many vintage styles are simply classier than modern stuff. Not that this part comes as surprise to me, given my lifelong taste for old things* and the fact that I've been slowly collecting vintage and reporduction sewing patterns for a few years now....

So I don't know if I'm going to end up being one of those people who dresses completely retro every day (probably unlikely; I have no clue about vital things like hair and especially makeup, and finding vintage-esque shoes with a 1-2" heel is a bitch; why oh why must they all have 3" heels?) or just spice up my wardrobe with retro flair.

In the meantime, at least I'm enjoying the ride.

* - direct quote from my very modern-leaning Wonderful Husband last weekend, when I was admiring a Hoosier cabinet: "You and I are very different people." Which, well, yes in some ways. And no in others. Which is a marital strength, I think.
