Me Man, You Writer
May. 12th, 2010 11:35 pmSo since my writing class only had two entries to go through this week (there would have been three, but the teacher gave her copy back to the writer, so even though the rest of us had edited it, it gets stacked onto next week's class, which has seven other entries to edit; great, none of us are going to get good class discussion!), we talked about gender writing. Which was interesting in one way and disturbing in another. I mean, probably everyone knows the truism that women talk and men grunt. Women = emotions, men = actions, right? Oh, and numbers! Musn't forget that men love numbers and statistics and the little wimmins, their brains are just not wired that way! Which is mostly true to a certain extent, but come on. It's the 21st century! My husband may have the MA in maths, but I'm the one who pays the bills and balances the checkbook. And he is just as likely as me to express what he is feeling in a non-violent manner. The concept of "there is a gender spectrum" did get brought up, but was not nearly as emphasized as I'd've liked. Sigh. I do like the teacher, but it shows in a lot of ways that she's from a different generation than I am.
