Sewing Stuff, and Kaijuu Vegetables
Jan. 31st, 2010 10:29 pmI have three things I am trying to accomplish in the evenings these days: writing, reading, and sewing. I decided to devote my time this weekend to the latter, and have finally finished the 1930s butterfly blouse. I'm planning to wear it to work tomorrow, and I must say that I think I look stunning in it. Well, stunning for me, anyway. :) YMMV.
Wonderful Husband and I have recently purchased a fancy new HD LED TV, which necessitated us upgrading our satellite receiver to one that will get HD channels. My parents came over today and my father and husband climbed up on the roof to attach the new receiver to the chimney while my mother and I did a bit of weeding in the kitchen garden and then I made dinner for us all. I'm still having problems timing roast root vegetables to be done at the same time as the roast chicken, grr. The stunning moment of the day came when I asked my mother to pull up a turnip... she did so. It weighed three pounds. ^_^;;; HUGENORMOUS VEG! (She pulled up another and took it home with her, along with salsa and a loaf of sourdough bread.)
Unfortunately, the butterfly blouse didn't suit her as well as it does me, but she also tried on my still-unfinished 1920s zig-zag dress, and with a few alterations (mostly length, as she's 8" shorter than I am), I think a version made in more drapey fabric might look fabulous on her. I've pulled that out and set it on my desk as my next sewing project to finish... we'll see how long it takes me to finish the one for myself. I think pinking some of the seam allowances may help the speed of finish, as that's been my hang-up point for the project.
