Aug. 18th, 2004 11:00 pmWhen it's slow enough at work that I'm going to be dead bored otherwise, I do crafts. Crochet, sewing, or most recently, embroidery. This naturally attracts the interest of the customers as they wander past me to go to the restrooms, to the parking lot, to the patio. I get comments. In all the time I've been doing this, I have only ever gotten one negative comment, from a customer who seemed to think it would be better for hosts to stand around doing nothing rather than keeping their idle hands busy. Other reactions have ranged from "oh, you should pick up tatting!" (which made me think of
ghilledhu) to "that's beautiful; it's a dying art" to "do they make you do that?" Given that the restaurant I work at is mining-themed, handwork is actually fairly in keeping with the theme, which is why I can get away with it.
So tonight I embroidered chickens. ^^
