There's been a meme going around the TFs writers that goes a little like this: take your mp3 player of choice, set it on shuffle, and write for the duration of each of the first five, or ten, or however many, songs that come up. This kind of intrigued me, but since I don't have much on my Hi!Pod (it currently being pretty much for flights), this wouldn't work out too well for me. Plus I haven't yet figured out how to do a general shuffle mode on the thing. But what it did prompt for me was the following idea: to write a series of fics from songs from the musicals I've heard (or, more rarely, seen) and liked. Here's the first.

I am... pondering setting up a writing exercise for myself every day, especially since Wonderful Husband has pointed out that while I can do B.I.C. writing, I usually don't.... His point being that it would be good for me, stretching mental muscles and all that. I'm currently contemplating doing this using either lj's prompt of the day, or the daily prompt from A Writer's Book of Days, possibly both on days when I'm feeling particularly ambitious. Pieces may end up being fanfiction type stuff and thus posted publicly regardless, but I especially want to be doing original writing.

That said, if anyone would like to be on the filter for this project, please let me know. I'll be counting on the people who are to be an audience (honesty appreciated more than mindless flattery) and also to keep me going on this because I know my own tendencies toward inertia. There will, of course, be days when I don't have access to a computer (especially conventions and vacations), so I'll have to see about crossing those bridges as they arise.

In any case, if you want on/in, let me know.

In case anyone's wondering why I'm posting so much from work today, I'm in that horrible, dreadful state known as "caught up." And, unfortunately, since we're getting the entire office recarpeted this weekend, desk has to be cleared by the time I leave work tomorrow, so starting any of the background projects is not too viable. Ergo, bored and trying to keep myself busyish. This is experimenting to see if I can fit an idea I have in my head into the [livejournal.com profile] prowlxjazz comm's May challenge.
