Me: wait a minute. This tier goes *across* the back opening of the skirt. You said to sew the tier closed into a circle.
Pattern: No I didn't.
Me: Yes you did! Look there.
Pattern: Obviously you misread.
Me: No I didn--nevermind. I'm wasting time arguing with you.

*pins tier on*
Me: Why is this not ruffling?
Pattern: Because it's only 12" wider than the skirt, ya dumb blonde, and the skirt doesn't get gathered until the last step.
*test-gathers skirt waist to test ruffling theory*
Me: It's still not ruffling.
Pattern: That's because you don't have the hoop skirt on beneath it.
Me: Bullpuckey. Look at this. This tier is *limp*! Limp! It's nnot going to have any volume, hoop skirt or not.
Pattern: Not my problem.
Me: Grr. So not only do I have to buy at least another six yards of this fabric, I also need to buy lots of black netting, cut it, double-layer it, and ruffle it beneath this fabric to get volume? My ruffler foot *despises* netting!
Pattern: Still not my problem. Deal with it.

Date: 2004-03-10 07:10 pm (UTC)Patterns can be evil. I have a regency ballgown pattern with a Pattern Piece J. Pattern Piece J is a bias strip. Detailed descriptions of the usefulness of a bias strip were included in the directions. Not included in the directions: any indication of where, if anywhere, Pattern Piece J fits into the dress.
What pattern are you using? Is it the Simplicity flounced hoopskirt?
