Yesterday, after his morning class, I took Squiddle with me to my quilt guild's Quilts For Kids subgroup meeting, where four of us proceeded to spend roughly five hours kitting up quilts in various stages of preparation (sew these pieces to make a top; quilt these layers together; sew binding on to finish the quilt) for interested members to pick up at the next meeting. Squiddle, being a pretty happy child, charmed my guildmates, who are mostly ladies of the "waiting for grandchildren" age.

I brought with me a roll of batting that I couldn't let languish in the thrift store for only $1.00, which got used right away, and two sets of blocks that I was never going to do anything with. One was a (blue) star-block-of-the-day sewalong I'd gotten 20-ish blocks through and fallen out of love with, the other was a set of '30s repro prints where the blocks turned out too big for the look I wanted. The second set got kitted up; the first will probably get kitted up next month. My guildmates seemed to like them, though, asking if I was sure I wanted to give them away. Ahahahahaha... yes please! I have at least four other sets of blocks I need to do things with. Get these ones out of my stash and done up into charity quilts, please!

After we were all done and everything put away, I claimed some of the scraps and trimmings that were otherwise going to be tossed in the trash. I've been working on a few things using 1.5" squares recently, and hated to see the pieces wasted. So last night I cut up all the brightly-colored scraps, and today have been sewing them into ten more "H" blocks and half a dozen Idaho Square Dance blocks. They're pretty small - each Square Dance block has 33 pieces and finishes at 7" square - but with the bright colors (and mixing in a few darks here and there for pizzazz), I'm thinking a baby quilt would be cute. Plus that way I don't need to make a billion of them, and I can get the block out of my system and get back to work on Allietare-By-Moonlight.

Of course, I also want to make this pieced star for a baby quilt as well....
