On Carrots

Squiddle is occasionally a selective eater. (Like right now, he's eating all the rice and none of the stir-fry out of his bowl of stir-fry-and-rice.) He refuses to eat store-bought carrots but will happily nom away on the ones I grow in the garden. I thought it was just a matter of texture.

Then, this evening, while cutting up a couple of store-bought carrots for the stir-fry, I nibbled on a slice and stopped.

UGH.

No wonder he won't eat them, if this is what they taste like compared to the ones in my garden!

After this bag is used up, no more. And clearly I need to dedicate more garden space to carrots....

Oh, wow, that much of a difference, huh? Damn, one of these...well, YEARS...I should really look into trying to grow some of my own stuff too. Just...no real space (or time, or money) to do so right now.

Yeah, that much of a taste difference. I wasn't expecting such a drastic difference, and I'm a die-hard gardener!

I'm not a big carrot fan myself. I'll have to see about picking some up at the farmer's market next time I can make it to one.

Hmmmmm! I've never managed to like carrots, but. Maybe I just don't like store-bought carrots... (I like the idea of liking carrots! Especially purple ones!)

I'm hit or miss on store bought carrots - sometimes I get some really sweet, tasty ones (often the organic, but not always) and sometimes they're tasteless and blah. The ones I grew in my garden were a disappointment - I think the ground wasn't soft enough for them to grow properly.
