Author: Roger Lea MacBride
Length: 349 pages
So I went to a rummage sale this morning, and picked up this book for a quarter. I previously hadn't had much interest in either the Little House series prequels or sequels, because the former are highly speculative and the latter not written by someone who was there. But, hey, a quarter.
Rocky Ridge isn't as authentic as the original series. There's no way it can be. But that said, it's a decent read, and written very much in the vein of the original nine books. The main character shifts from Laura to her daughter Rose (the adoptive grandmother of the author), and the book covers their move from South Dakota to Missouri. I end up finding myself curious about what happens next, and to learn more about some of the characters, so I will probably not shy away from the rest of the series.
Verdict: If you like the original books, this is a decent sequel. Go for it.
