Dental Argh!

One of my crowns popped off last night while I was brushing my teeth. Eating and breathing very carefully until I can get it glued back on.

ETA: Crown firmly reaffixed to tooth. Have spoken with uncle-mechanic regarding car's continued oil leak and it looks like a full engine replacement (expensive) is the only option. May have to reconsider that new car thing. Obviously it's a Monday.

Does it hurt when a crown pops off? I live in fear of such a thing ever happening. The dentists tell me it doesn't, but they tell me a LOT of things don't hurt... and lie. T_T

No, it doesn't hurt. It's pretty much just the glue giving way, so suddenly you have a small chunk of ceramic in your mouth. I got enough cut off the teeth I have crowns on, though, that they're fairly close to the nerve, so if the crowns are off my teeth are very cold-sensitive, which makes drinking and eating and breathing more of a careful endeavor. Oddly, though, they're not touch-sensitive; I can probe at the lack-of-crown with my tongue and it doesn't bother me a whit.

So, really, I wouldn't worry about it being painful.
