DIY Irritation and Irrigation
Feb. 20th, 2011 06:51 pmWednesday: .3" rain
Friday: .7" rain
Saturday: only .2" rain in spite of a truly impressive deluge last night.
But today was sunny (if cool), so I poked about in the garden a bit more (not nearly as much as I should've), part of which wasconning convincing Wonderful Husband to help me clear all the dead leaves out of the Tristar strawberry patch. It looks much happier now, and had the side effect of five runners getting potted up to make new plants.
We also did grocery shopping, which involved CostCo, where they had potting soil (yay! I was out) and both hostas and aquilegias, which will go into the two beds on the north (part to full shade) side of the house. Said beds do not have any watering systems in them and I worry about my tendancy to forget such things, so I looked about online for ollas/clay watering pots.
Now, the only place I was able to find the type I want is at Peddler's Wagon. However, the Dervaes family, whose site that is, have pissed off me and rather a lot of other people who blog about gardening and sustainability and other such things by trademarking terms like "urban homestead" and starting to send cease and desist letters to bloggers, to libraries, and getting Facebook to suspend communities that use their trademarked terms in the title.
I refuse to give money to people who preach that corporations like Monsanto are evil (which they are; GMO food scares me) and then turn around and act like that.
So I read a few DIY clay pot irrigation sites, went to Orchard Supply Hardware, picked up a tube of caulk, cleaned them out of 4" clay pots (yay, 20% off this weekend!), and have myself a little project for after dinner. ^_^
