This is a book I asked for (and received) for a Christmas gift primarily on the strength of it having a Tamora Pierce story in it. To say I was pleasantly surprised by the bredth of its stories is an understatement. I actually recognized about two-thirds of the names in it, and loved all but about two of the stories (those two had their moments, just, unfortunately, not enough of them). In addition to Tamora's story about Skysong/Kitten, Naomi Novik submitted a Temeraire'verse story, Peter S. Beagle wrote an (unsurprisingly) urbane, meta story, Jane Yolen did historical, Bruce Coville did a thoughtful piece about fairy tale politics... and those are just the authors with whose works I am familiar! There's really a lot of creative scope covered in this book around its theme, something I haven't seen too often in anthologies.
Verdict: highly recommended.
