I Canz Be Ded Plz?

sakon76The Santa-frickin-Ana winds are blowing today. This makes me really happy that I got my baking and canning done yesterday because today I feel like crap. Even starting the day off with hot mulled apple cider and cute flannel jammies does not help.
Yesterday I took the lacto-fermented pickles I made from my grandmother's recipe, decanted them and properly canned them up. This is my first year making pickles, and I definitely improved over the course of the summer. Next year hopefully they'll all be at an even level of "decent." But the cucumber vines are now all harvested out and need to get pulled up. I did a batch of zucchini pickles (into which I tossed the last two cucumbers for the heck of it) as well yesterday, and tasting the leftover syrup, I'm thinking that they'll actually be quite tasty. I also took one of the three-and-a-half gallon bags of tomatoes from the freezer and made it into marinara sauce in the crockpot. It made two quart jars and two half-pint jars (note to self: acquire some pint jars at some point), but given that most of them have a layer of clear liquid at the bottom, I obviously needed to cook it down some more. I'll probably upend them and mix it in at some point, but for now it's a mental footnote for my learning curve.
