Well, I have heard back from the Chatelaine of Gyldenholt (my local SCA barony) and have decided that I'll start participating at next month's Pentathalon. Which is incidentally being held at my college. Am wondering if "Eleanor of the Roses" is a sufficiently period name... both for the ones in my cheeks and the thirty-plus ones I have planted and growing in the yard.

Prodded a bit more at the Yami no Matsuei fic last night. Jumped ahead a bit, actually, though not yet to the lemony bits. I need to decide if one of Hisoka's lines is justified and figure out what happens in the bit I, blocked, skipped over.

My grandmother may be coming home this week, which is good. I will need to see about getting an extra cushion for her chair, though I'm not sure what I can do about the toilet seat. I wonder if my mother's going to be able to schedule the carpets being deep-cleaned before her return?

Sewed velcro to the waistband of my petticoat last night, am quite pleased with its adjustability. Practiced a few swing steps in it, even. This month's Chobits calendar picture shows Chii in a similarly fluffy skirt of approximately the same length, except red. Hmm.... [I'm not that hot on the rest of the picture, but I like the redness of the skirt.]

Best friend has managed to score Kaim Tachibana's _Himuro no Sakura 1_ whilst in Japan. I am madly jealous. I WANT that book. Ah well. I shall find it someday. In the meantime, I've won my auction for Tamora Pierce's _The Realms of the Gods_ in HC/DJ. Only five more to go and I'll have them all....

_Lady Jane_ was released last week on DVD. It's on my want list. Next week comes the first volume of .hack//SIGN. Also want. But not buying. Yet.

Still waiting for the government to send its okay for my fiance's visa. It theoretically should arrive today; it's been two months to the day since they received it

I'm glad to hear your grandmother's coming back. As far as toilet seats go, depending on what you need, there's specific types of raised and orthopedic seats for the handicapped available that might help. I could check with DoR for suppliers or if you're interested, or a Google search could turn sopmething up.

...And I just realized my first post here has been about toilet seats. I hope this doesn't set a tone or anything. *sigh*

Two reasons you should call yourself Eleanor of the Roses:
1. My grandmother's name was Eleanor.
2. You should be proud of your roses. They're wonderful.

She has a raised toilet seat already. Apparently what caused her spinal fracture was her way of just plopping/dropping down onto chairs and the toilet seat. I can see what to do about the chairs, but the toilet seat issue doesn't seem to be one anything can be done about.

It's not whether or not I want to, it's whether or not the SCA will let me. Eleanor *is* a period English name (back to the 1200s, I believe), it's the question of whether or not they'll let me use "of the Roses" as a byname. No way to find out until I submit the name, I guess.
