A Writing Meme
Oct. 11th, 2007 02:05 pmThere's a meme going around many of my writing friends that goes a little like this:
What do you think are the "trademarks" of the fiction that I write? What type of themes or characterization notes or quirks keep on manifesting in my writing? Essentially, what do you think is a stereotypically "me" way of writing fic?
It's making me think (more than usual, anyway) about my writing. I can name some of what appeals to me and appears in my writing. I like the fantastic, whether it's giant robots or world-hopping or magic or ghosts. I like combining worlds and seeing their casts interact. I like (I admit it) making my readers tilt their heads to the side and say "That shouldn't work... but it does somehow." I like happy endings. And I know that I have a stylistic problem that leads me down the path of run-on sentences.
That said, if I ever ended up with amnesia and was presented a whole bunch of printouts of my and others' stories with author names blacked out... would I be able to pick out my own? I don't know. So, I guess, to anyone inclined....
What do you see in my writing?
