Tried taking the American English Dialect meme and couldn't do it. Either they don't have the terms I use (such as "Halloween Eve" or "trolley") or they don't have "all of the above" options (route rhymes with "out" as in Route 66 -and- "root" as in which route are you taking).

I suspect time living abroad and being married to a Briton has skewed my dialect.

... thanks to dating a Briton for nigh on 3 1/2 years now, I always say things like 'queues' instead of 'lines' and 'whinging' instead of 'whining'. We won't even get into how I pronounce 'jaguar', either. As if I didn't have a difficult enough time being understood by people in this country before....

no, i had some of the same problems... they didn't have "Cabbage Night" and "Hell Night." And I agree with you on Route...

Interesting...I don't think I've ever heard of two different pronunciations for "route". I go back and forth between "root" and "rowt," but I don't use a different pronunciation for a different meaning.
