Crane Quilt, Done
Aug. 11th, 2015 10:23 amPulled the crane quilt out of the dryer and spread it across the bed to have a look.
I am very happy with how the feather quilting in the black areas came out. It's black thread on black-speckled-with-gold fabric, so during the quilting process, it completely disappeared, which both Wonderful Husband and I found disappointing. But now that it's been washed and dried, the quilt has that slightly puffy/puckery "quilted" look to it, so the black-on-black quilting is visible as texture. Beautiful.
The challenge has two more months/rounds to go, and we'll all be presenting the works to the guild in October. Which, well, my quilt is black and orange. How appropriate, right? Wonderful Husband thus suggested that I look through my Halloween fabrics for a backing, and of the ones I pulled out, he selected a mottled gray batik with silver spiderwebs decorating the fabric. I had just enough for the quilt's backside. And that fabric was worrying me during the quilting too, because it had never been prewashed, so it was kind of stiff and tightly woven. But now that it's been through the machine, it's softened up and is also lovely to handle.
Phew.
