Shiny and Bright!
Oct. 29th, 2012 07:14 pmAmong other fixtures that got removed for painting the main bathroom was the ceiling fan cover. Now, I've never been a fan of it. It's black. Why on Earth black? It boggles me. But then I like clean lines and light colors, particularly since our house has very few south-facing windows. We have a relatively dark interior. I killed two or three African violets before my mother figured out why they were dying.
So we pulled the fan cover, and vacuumed the thick-clinging dust off the fan and its wiring. Discovering that the cover was actually aluminum, not plastic as I'd thought, I decided to get it powder-coated white. First, though, I took it to the sink and scrubbed the gunk off the backside with a brush.
Huh. Bright shiny-new aluminum. Kinda pretty.
I then flipped the piece, and in the course of about fifteen minutes with a nail brush and a Scotch-Brite pad, got rid of the black paint.
I think I can live with a shiny aluminum ceiling fan cover! And if I decide later that I can't, well, I can take it then to get powder-coated.
