Second-Hand Gaming
Apr. 11th, 2010 09:31 pmAs I sit here, doing a repair job on my new pumpkin dancing ladies scarf, I listen to Wonderful Husband playing his newly-acquired game of Fallout 3 in the other room. Fallout is a game series I know of mainly through the discourses of
camwyn. I am thus far finding this game amusing for a number of reasons. The first is that there's a settlement named "Megaton" after the undetonated bomb sitting in the middle of it. If you can't guess where my brain keeps automatically placing an "r" in that name, you haven't read enough of the fanfic I write. It makes for some interesting misreadings of subtitles. Another reason I find this game amusing is that it's fun to figure out if the Wonderful Husband is cursing at himself, his character, another character, the game in general, or the people who made it. Oh, yes, and all declarations along the lines of "I'm going to die!" are responded to with the traditional "Shut up, Rattrap" on my part. :) Thirdly, between the music and the setting, I keep expecting Wall-E to come around a corner any minute. And finally, there's a particular tone that I believe comes from the main character's "Pip-Boy" gear that is a dead ringer (forgive the pun) for part of the Kim Possible opening theme. Which makes me think of KP in a post-apocalyptic world. She would still be awesome.
