From the Valley of the Smokes
Oct. 22nd, 2007 10:32 amI live in a relatively fire-safe area of SoCal, dead in the center of suburbia less than ten miles from the beach, far from any open swathes of dry brush. I hate the regular Santa Ana winds: they're either dry and hot, or dry and cold. They rattle the windows and the bedroom door and make me itchy, cranky, dry, and unable to sleep well. I hate the fire-starter/spreader Santa Anas worse, even though I'm personally not likely to be threatened by them. I went out on the patio behind my "office" just now, to straighten up the two trees that've been knocked over. The sunlight is like dawn or fire, and the air smells like smoke.
I hate this. I hope the winds die down soon and the fires are contained quickly.
