Okay, it's not quite as good as managing to get all the satin skirt layers out of way too little fabric with only one seamed piece, but I have just finished cutting out everything (bags, sleeves, the rest of the skirts, everything) for the dresses, and I am most pleased with myself. One seam in the satin layer of one of the handbags (because, well, the satin pieces that were big enough became skirt pieces) and more especially all the sheer skirt layers cut with only four inches on a diagonal between pieces left over. Am I good, or what?

The sewing machine does, in fact, work better when it's on.

For those who've not seen our workroom, my sewing machine is positioned directly in front of a west-facing window. This means that I get excellent working light, but it also means that during the afternoon my brain goes "oh, light! the machine must be on!" and makes my foot press down on the pedal even when the machine is, in fact, *not* on.

Three sheer skirt layers half-finished, taking a green tea break before pinning the last two pieces on each.
