Wonderful Husband and I saw The Last Samurai yesterday. Not too bad, even though I knew getting into it how it had to end (history classes are a wonderful thing). Very definitely Dances With Wolves in Japan. I worry that the samurai life may've been a bit more romanticized than wonted, but there was only one (subtle) anacronism that I had the knowledge to find. Costuming was wonderful, actors were good. Was the film based on a specific historical incident, does anyone know, or just a general trend of the times thing?
