Title: A Tale of Time City
Author: Diana Wynne Jones
Length: 327 pages

A part of me wants to really like this book. It's by an esteemed children's author, and definitely has the feeling of some British children's adventure books I love (works by Noel Streatfeild, Edith Nesbit, etc). And I liked Jones' two Howl books I read.

But I just can't love AToTC. There's too much that the author knows about the world that is never clearly explained to the audience. I would have to reread the book two or three times to understand the mechanics of the universe. And, honestly, for all that the main character spends a good deal of the novel wanting to get back to her home and family, in the end they're merely an afterthought for her. WTF?

Verdict: Skip. I felt betrayed by the obscurity of the details and the careless writing.
