Various Stuffs
Had an appointment with a doctor this morning for a Mildly Invasive Exam, Type A. Arrived, went into the exam room, sat there reading for about fifteen minutes until her nurse came in, very apologetic, and said that the doctor actually needed me to get a Mildly Invasive Exam, Type B, and wasn't able to do that. So I got dressed again, went to work, got a call confirming my insurance had approved the Type B exam, called the place that will do it, got it set for Wednesday afternoon.
(Tomorrow afternoon, meanwhile, I get to go to my main doctor and get my annual physical and pap smear. What a fun week!)
Title: On the Way Home
Author: Laura Ingalls Wilder
Length: 120 pages
I saw this at the thrift store this weekend and grabbed it for $.99 as complementary reading to Little House on Rocky Ridge. It's Laura's travel diary as described in that book, with framing story written by her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane. It's interesting to see where the differences are from MacBride's fictionalized version, and to read Laura's interests. A good portion of her writing is concerned with land condition and prices as they travelled from South Dakota to Missouri in 1894. Understandable, for a farm woman, but an interesting divergence from the original Little House books, which had less of an emphasis on farming. I also found her mentions of "colored people" interesting, not so much for themselves, but for the implication that's the term she used in 1894. Though I suppose she was raised too genteely to use any of the more slur-ish terms.
Verdict: Recommended for any fans of the Little House books.
I've figured out how I want to deal with the scene of Telatha's dismissal, and started working it in. It actually helped with a bit of flow on Marin dealing with politics. I think I'm going for maximum drama, and putting it in the second chapter, when her replacement is brought into the palace. Means I'll need to redo that whole pair of scenes with Rosemarinda. In the meantime, I've finished another batch of class reviews, and started on the next. I'm actually in chapter two now! Stopping after Kitty's first scene, on page 26 and at 132,369 words.
