Garlicky Garden Puttering

I took today off work as a health day. I've decided not to let my Puritan work ethic make me feel guilty about it as I never take sick days. I have twelve of the things stocked up, which is the limit for where I work. I lose them every year. I woke up aching and really not looking forward to going in, and everything that I could get done at work I'd finished before leaving Friday.

Unfortunately it was even hotter than the weekend, so I wasn't able to get much gardening done until this evening. (The sink-hole is now filled back in and tromped down.) I did, however, manage to harvest my garlic and left it curing in the sun all day. I haven't counted the bulbs (and not all of them are those lovely big bulbs you get from the grocery store), but let's just say that I won't need to buy garlic for a long, long time. I'm planning to let them keep sun-curing for the rest of the week, and then to braid them up on Saturday. This probably means the onions I planted are ready, too, but one allium at a time. I've let the remaining leeks go to flower (big white and purple pompoms *grin*) as well as some radishes, beets, and carrots. It's amazing to see how many pollinators are in the garden! I counted no less than four kinds of bees....

For most of the day, though, I read a book and did house puttering. Just enough to where I don't feel I actually accomplished anything, but things do look a little tidier, and I'm no longer aching. So back to work tomorrow.
